POSITION TITLE:  Lead Preschool Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Higher education and certification Elementary or Early Education preferred
  • 2 years working experience with early childhood aged children
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (will require proof of cards)

 

REPORTS TO:  Early Childhood Advisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-time; Monday - Friday; Benefits provided

 

STARTING SALARY:  $17.50 - $20.00/hour

                            

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cooperate with the board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
  • Effectively represent the preschool, its program, policies and philosophy, and the teaching profession to the board and the community.
  • Follow the grievance policy as outline in the Employee Handbook in dealing with conflict with student, parents, staff and administration.
  • Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
  • Work as team with other staff, maintaining a supportive and encouraging relationship with other teachers, and assisting in the development/implementation of programs/processes to enhance the school's overall program.
  • Seek the counsel of the administration, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  • Regularly attend and participate in preschool staff meetings and applicable in-service sessions.
  • Control, distribute, and inventory, applicable school-owned resources (i.e. textbooks, equipment) and cultivate in students a respect for those materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Teacher and Aide to teach classes as assigned following the prescribed Core Knowledge/classical guides as scheduled by the Director.
  • Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school's philosophy.
  • Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child:  mental, physical, social and emotional
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
  • Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
  • Maintain regular and accurate attendance and progress records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student's progress.
  • Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of learning progress.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences during the school year sufficient to maintain effective school home communication
  • Create and submit lesson plans and objectives as directed by the Lead Teacher
  • Inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any duty assigned.  Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
  • Show professional knowledge and growth through continued study and reading in the field of teaching and attendance at appropriate conferences and workshops.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the director such as carpool, recess, lunch duty, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Inability to perform any of the physical requirements does not indicate exclusion from the position.  If any of the physical requirements pose difficulty, the director should be notified so that accommodations may be made.

  • Requires manual dexterity
  • Open/close safety doors; operate light switches
  • Write clearly with chalk, markers, overhead pens and other writing tools
  • Requires vision/hearing at normal range
  • Ability to access student areas, teacher work room, office
  • Ability to access playground, field, play areas of varying terrain
  • Ability to speak, read, write and print
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs. (desks, boxes of textbooks)
  • Ability to move text materials and supplies to and from storage areas

EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, TOOLS

  • Operate technology provided in classroom for delivery of instruction
  • Operate copy machines, telephones, paper cutters, laminator as per front office instruction
  • Proficient in Google and Gmail
  • Operating knowledge of student information system and personnel information system within one month of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoors:  classroom environment, both quiet and noisy conditions
  • Outdoors:  playground environment, varying topography and terrain
